Hail Mary is about growing old and the heartbreak of having a loved one whose memory has faded, and while they are physically still here, mentally they are gone. The idea for the song came to me when an elderly man, who was sitting behind me on a bus, recited the prayer for the first 40 minutes of the trip. I thought there must be a story behind that.
